EMC Corp. (EMC), is facing calls by an activist investor to break itself up. It reported third-quarter earnings that fell short of analysts’ estimates amid slowing spending on storage. Activist shareholder Elliott Management Corp. has been pressing EMC to spin off faster-growing VMware, saying the parent company is undervalued and the companies now compete and hinder each other’s opportunities.
